Dry Air Coolers

Our range of Dry Air Coolers and Air Blast Radiators are designed for commercial and industrial fluid cooling applications. We offer a wide range of options enabling us to provide the most cost effective solution for your cooling requirement.
Standard arrangements include flat bed vertical or horizontal airflow with V and W configurations to offer the smallest footprint.

Whether your application is cooling water / glycol for water cooled chillers, injection moulding machines, furnace equipment, CHP Engine Cooling or any other process. One or more of our units can be selected to give the most cost effective solution to suit your space and noise requirement.

Energy saving free cooling is possible for much of the year for many applications.

The wetted surface – Adiabatic Cooling option enables water to be cooled to within 6 °C of ambient wet bulb, water is used to increase the cooling effect when the ambient dry bulb is 3°C above the design wet bulb – for most of the year the unit operates as a conventional Dry Air Cooler.

Wetted Surface – Adiabatic Coolers

Therefore with a design ambient of 20 °C wet bulb it is possible to achieve fluid outlet temperatures of
26 °C

The water is only needed when the load and ambient dry bulb temperature exceeds a predetermined set point, with very few hours of wetted surface operation over a year.

The question of causing possible conditions for legionella is no more than that of normal climate conditions of rain. The water used for wetting is quite small and is totally lost, not recycled or retained. Regional weather data analysis shows a typical 120 hours per year when ambient exceed 22 ° C.

Description
The V configuration Dry Air Coolers can be adapted to take advantage of latent cooling effect in adverse conditions of high ambient dry bulb temperatures. Reversion back to dry air cooling takes place on lowering of temperature. All features of temperature control by fan off cycling with low or residential fan speeds are retained. The very large surface areas of the coils assure that evaporation takes place efficiently with the very minimum of wastage. The normal dry air cooler is regulated by fan off cycling by thermostat switches; a further thermostatic switch brings on the wetting cycle, only after all the fans are running.

The Wetted Surface option enables units to be economically sized for a lower ambient thus saving space and capital cost. Alternatively, units may be selected for cooling water solutions to a temperature below the ambient dry bulb approaching conditions near to evaporative towers.

Components
The system comprises of sparge pipes with water distribution nozzles mounted on the air on face of the coils to effectively wet the coil surface, using mains pressure water @ 1 bar gauge, a water flow regulating valve, pressure gauge, mains water inlet solenoid valve, drain solenoid valve, purge timer and pressure gauge and manual drain points are fitted.

Connection to water mains requires a double check valve.

Recommendations
We would recommend that the coil fins are polyester coated to minimise any effect of corrosion.

Depending on the water quality it may also be necessary to fit a scale prevention device to the mains water supply.

FREE Cooling

Free CoolingFREE COOLING – Process Water Cooling

FREE COOLING for water cooling applications is achievable for most of the year for many applications using Dry Air Coolers. The Dry Air Cooler is arranged in series with the refrigeration water chiller,. As the return water is pre cooled by the Dry Air Cooler the load on chiller and power consumption is reduced. Energy savings are immediate when the ambient is 1° C below the return water temperature to the chiller and increase as the ambient reduces to a point where 100 % FREE COOLING is achieved by the Dry Air Cooler

Package Specification:
The free cooling package is designed to reduce the installation time on site by providing integrated controls and diverting valve for Energy Saving Free Cooling applications when used with Inverter Fan Speed Control.

The package comprises of:

  • 3 Way Diverting Valve with 24 V Actuator
  • Balancing Valve
  • Carel IR33 Differential Ambient / Water Inlet Temperature Controller to control Diverting Valve

EC Fans

EC FansEnergy saving fans, providing maximum efficiency, minimum consumption and 100 % speed controlable.

EC Fans are fan assemblies with Electronically commutated external rotor motors with integrated EC variable speed controller.

HC Coils offer Ziehl Abegg EC Blue Owlet Fan options for the complete ranges of Air Coolers, Dry Air Coolers and Air Cooled Condensers.

The EC Blue Owlet fans are highly efficient – IE4 (IEC60034-31) efficiency class offering the highest efficiency with the lowest possible noise level for any duty. Integrated speed control is achieved by 0 – 10 V proportional input enabling the fan to operate at the optimum speed and lowest energy consumption.
